Hashtags...yes they can be annoying especially if you are confused about the origin or the reason for them. I have seen a lot of complaints about them on Facebook and honestly I think some people overuse them. Let me explain a purpose for them though, how they got on FB and why they are useful.
For instance, I just posted from my instagram a picture of a hairstyle I did on a mannequin. Hey practice what you love I say! For business purposes I have my instagram post on instagram itself, Facebook and Twitter for ease of use. Because of this you see the hashtags on FB but not because I feel they really do anything there but because they are purposeful on Twitter. When I hit enter I chose 3 different hashtags and here is the breakdown for each.
1st hashtag #fingerwaves. I posted this to my Twitter as well as Instagram. Let's say someone really wants their hair done with fingerwaves and they go onto Twitter and do a search for it and because of the hashtag this post and image will come up. Maybe they will like what they see, look at my profile, see my website and book an appt with me. 6 degrees of marketing yea?
2nd hashtag #SamVilla Sam Villa is an amazing hairstylist who many people respect and who I learned the technique from off of YouTube. Once again if someone searches for Sam Villa this might show up. If Sam Villa's people were to search his name checking for whatever they might see this. So in a way it is showing your work (hoping they see) to someone you respect and sending out love to let them know you appreciate them.
3rd hashtag #schedulicity For those who have booked with me they know that this is my online booking system that you can book appts with me 24/7 using the link up above on this site (shameless marketing huh?). When I enter that hashtag my instagram picture is automatically posted to my Schedulicity page for people to see when they are browsing for stylists. So once again...cheap smart marketing right?
I am only really posting this for all the people who hate hashtags in hopes you will see some value in them. Sometimes we hate the things we do not understand, hey I hated on Miley Cyrus and now I am coming out and telling the world (this means you) that I love her newest album. So ignore the pointless confusing hashtags out there, laugh at the subway commercial, and search Twitter sometime and see how they can be useful.
Thanks for reading all and have a great week!
what's this for?
I find so many things I love out on The Internet and I want a place to share it. Trends, tips, and hopefully some fun stuff too!
