I knew it was happening, all the neon colors, the scrunchies, the leggings with nothing over them! At a hair show this weekend though I realized just how much the 80's are here and the 90's on their way!
Of course some of these below are the extreme example. The runway for fashion is always more extreme and it trickles down to wearable just like hair trends do. So what we as stylists are learning and seeing now is what is on it's way because we like to be ready when our clients are!
Here we go...
Let's start with the least extreme. Bobs are a huge trend currently and will be continuing on. This isn't your soccer mom bob though (nothing wrong with those!) these have more texture and movement to them. This is also teamed up with the trend of allowing your natural waves to shine through . Have we seen something like this before???
A variation of it...yep! The difference? Hair product, good product. We have come a long way from Aquanet, Dippity Do, and L.A. Looks (Hey I had it all too!). My new current favorite is Pureology's brand new Colour Fanatic treatment spray. It allows for the softness and healthy look above and takes away the frizz here on the right. Of course we carry it in my salon and I welcome you to come in but to me all that matters is you pick it up today. You will thank me and Pureology I promise you!
P!nk is one of my guilty pleasures, because well she is awesome. She has amazing hair and she is a strong female. She normally sports a very short cut which I am partial too but like this she keeps a softness to it. And you might be thinking this is pretty rockerish for a girl but did I see it in the 80's?
Of course you did or I would have been wasting your time here right? One of my favorite movies was The Legend of Billie Jean, anyone remember that one? I think that is when I fell in love with this cut. Once again the difference between above and below??? Product but this time it is also all about the better quality of hair color and lighteners we as hair professionals have access to and use on our clients. I do think I see a tail here though eehgads!
OK, yes this is a very editorial fashion runway look but I promise you, look around and you will see the crimped styles of old showing up.
Ha told you! Notice the difference on this one? The size of the wave pattern is much smaller now and the quality again of the irons themselves are higher. Sam Villa is a maker of the current industry leader in this iron and if you clicked the link you will see with a leading price tag. There are others out there at a more reasonable price though I promise!
Another difference is that some are calling it a texture iron not a crimper, I think that is to take away the fear of the crimped style. We are using it to add volume and create a quality like extremely curly or ethnic hair. It is also being used to add volume that is hidden underneath the hair, this one you will have to see in person to believe.
I could really go on like this forever because the comparison is just fun! They say it takes what 20 or so years before a trend comes back? Thankfully with the help of technology we are able to improve the quality of the hair, the softness of the styles and hopefully the tails will stay away!
You are thinking about the mullet...I promise you they are out there...keep searching and report back to me!

Yep...I decided to grow my bangs out. It is a horrible experience that I might shed a few tears during the process.
I've had bangs for a few years now and because I am tired of the upkeep and as my hair gets longer I feel like my super short bangs were just to contrasting to the length.
Why didn't someone tell me before I have such a huge forehead!!! I feel like all my friends and husband have done me a disservice in the past. In fairness to them though I asked a coworker yesterday about it and she said it was actually cute and she is not a sugar coater. That doesn't mean I didn't keep glimpsing my hair in the mirror at work and each time going...oooooh gawd look at that 5 head!
In the future I will post more helpful tips on how to grow them out gracefully but today I am just here to gripe and let you all know this is a painful process and if you are in it too....I am there with you and for you sister or mister!
Bring on the patience, the warehouse sized can of hair spray, bobby pins and a box of tissues to sop up the tears of frustration.
Let us go the journey friends but know you are not alone!
Anyone else wake up to thunder at 6am this morning? Yea, I was sure we were being bombed, there was a massive earthquake or my neighbor was bringing in his trash cans. Or all of the above.
It got me to thinking about how it is that time of year where it's a good time to change up your hair color. The summer sun can drain all your hair color out, lighten that foil you got and the lighter color can wash you out.
Now I am not saying dye your hair black but some nice warm coppery lowlights or caramel multidimensional balayage can really brighten the start of those fall blues.
Start following me on Pinterest for some ideas if this is all confusing, I can tend to be that way! Pick up a new umbrella if you want to keep that drizzle away from your perfectly flattened 'do and make some soup! Happy beginning of fall everyone!
what's this for?
I find so many things I love out on The Internet and I want a place to share it. Trends, tips, and hopefully some fun stuff too!
