This is the internets, so I know you weren't lost without me but I felt a little lost without blogging. Where have I been? I've been working with some amazing ladies, having the privilege of doing their hair and makeup for photoshoots. This is not new to me if you have seen the gallery of my work on here, if you have not I would love if you would go have a look. ;)
I have started working with an amazing up and coming photographer. He has been giving me the free reign and ability to be creative and be a part of the shoot itself. It has always been my dream to have my makeup and hair work seen in a magazine or other print (not a glamour shot!) but what I did not realize is that being a part of the photoshoot is my real drive. Getting them ready, watching their hair and makeup for necessary changes, getting them into poses that are flattering for their bodies and trying to generally make them feel more comfortable. I have never done something that is as exhilarating, challenging and so rewarding at the same time. The best has been when the girls see their photos and I see the smile when they like how they look. Having the power to make someone feel good about themselves is an amazing thing and which is why I love my job.
I want to address something else since we are talking photos. When posting a comment on Facebook about the fact that the photographer, Michael Swihart and did not have any other work posted yet since this was our first time working together, I was corrected. Quietly, but found out something interesting. We did have work posted, on my own damn site! The picture below was taken by him previously at a shoot for another derby team that he was a backup on. Just finding the ropes sort of thing. The team told me I could take pictures off their Facebook to post here and so I did thinking that they were all the main photographers. The whole time I have had his picture up with no credit to him at all. I think it was one of his firsts but I am not sure, it was one of my favorites so that must say something! It also shows why I am so particular to the point of fascist about making sure your work is credited and your name on it. I feel awful that all this time he knew it was there and I didn't. That someone else was getting credit. This really was one of my favorites of the whole shoot.
I would love if you would go on over to my gallery and take a look at the photos. We have really poured a ton of work and soul into them and I am still putting out more everyday. Michael does not have a website out yet (although I have been nagging) so for now the pictures are only here!
I will never quit doing the hair and makeup because it is my first love and always will be. I am just so excited to be able to also do this, hopefully find more clients that love my work and want to come in and have me do their hair in the shop.
Once again I have missed writing beauty tips for you and should do another Photoshop one since I have been using it more and more and learning the fine art of how to really use it ethically. It is funny how depending on your experience how your views can be tweaked slightly.
Happy Holidays all!
what's this for?
I find so many things I love out on The Internet and I want a place to share it. Trends, tips, and hopefully some fun stuff too!
